Meet Nikos, Project Engineer Mechanical in our Southwest region, who has been part of J. de Jonge for almost three years. At J. de Jonge, everything revolves around people who take initiative and contribute to safe and successful projects, and Nikos is a great example of that.
What makes his role stand out?
The variety. He works across different locations, collaborates with a wide range of clients, and meets new people all the time. “I have too much energy to sit behind a desk 40 hours a week,” he says. His role reflects exactly that.
He values the combination of a family-like culture and the professionalism of a larger organization. With short communication lines and real opportunities to grow, Nikos has developed from a work preparation role into a more organizational position, taking ownership of projects and locations.
His day kicks off with a team briefing to map out who does what, where, and when. Once fitters, welders, mechanics, and supervisors head out to site, he shifts between planning, coordination, and keeping everyone aligned, constantly switching between thinking, doing, and solving challenges as they come up.
He describes the culture as open, professional, and involved. There’s a strong sense of trust and plenty of room to take initiative. “People genuinely support each other, and knowledge is actively shared. It’s a great balance between working hard and teamwork.”
Looking back, he is most proud of his growth within the piping world, from work preparation to running his own locations and projects. And of course, the informal moments stand out too: BBQs, Christmas parties, and Friday afternoon drinks remain highlights.
