Vopak, a global leader in tank storage and logistics, needed to upgrade the infrastructure at their Botlek facility to meet current operational standards.
The project required the replacement of critical piping systems, pump stations, and structural components across the facility. The aim was to ensure the plant met up-to-date safety and operational specifications, improving efficiency while maintaining stringent industry standards.
J. de Jonge was engaged as the EPC contractor for the extensive renewal of the piping and pump stations at Vopak Botlek.
The project faced significant complexity due to the extensive scope of work.
The scope of work involved replacing a substantial length of piping, including 18,000 meters of cooling, firefighting, and product pipelines across 90 tanks. Additionally, 480 meters of pipe bridges, totalling a replacement of 180 tons of steel.
Its scope also encompassed the installation of 4,400 meters of new product pipelines from the pump stations to five jetties, as well as the complete renewal of three pump stations. Coordinating the replacement work while ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations presented a substantial challenge.
Detailed engineering was carried out to meet the high standards of safety and operational efficiency required for the facility. Additional work involved civil engineering, insulation, painting, and steel construction to ensure the upgraded systems could handle the operational demands of the facility.
The project was successfully completed within budget and delivered on time. All systems were upgraded to meet current specifications, significantly improving the efficiency and safety of the facility.
The renewal of pipelines and pump stations ensured that Vopak Botlek could continue its operations for many years to come.
