Challenge

In early 2024, Impala Terminals Rotterdam took over the incomplete HHTT Terminal with the ambition to complete the project and bring the facilities into operation in full compliance with all regulations.

Following an initial status assessment, our team was engaged in Q4 2024 to complete the mechanical and piping scope.
The main challenge was to finalize extensive construction activities within a very limited timeframe, while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards under Bureau Veritas supervision.

Scope of work

Work began in November 2024 with a compact team.
The initial assignment — focused on small maintenance and key mechanical works — soon evolved into a full-scale project including:

  • Work preparation, prefabrication and installation of new piping across three pump floors, manifolds and nine barge positions
  • Prefabrication, coating and installation executed from our in-house workshop
  • Supply and installation of over 8 kilometers of piping within 3.5 months
  • Additional works on VRU 1 and VRU 2, including prefabrication, coating and assembly
  • Installation of firewater pipelines
  • Dewatering project for tank pit 7, including skids for eight tanks
  • Ongoing maintenance support, directly coordinated with the Impala maintenance department

During peak periods, more than 150 employees were active on site and another 40 in the prefabrication shop.
By October 2025, the project had reached over 80,000 work hours.

The Result

The project was successfully completed and handed over to Impala Terminals Rotterdam by the end of 2025. Despite overlapping activities and a tight schedule, the entire scope was executed without safety incidents, quality issues or delays. All works were performed in full compliance with PED inspection criteria, under the supervision of Bureau Veritas. This success was made possible through close collaboration between the Impala and project teams, where flexibility, craftsmanship and safety consistently took center stage.

“Over een periode van ruim een jaar heeft J de Jonge het piping- en mechanical werk op onze HHTT-terminal succesvol afgerond, ondanks complexe omstandigheden en strakke deadlines wist het team het project conform PED-criteria, veilig en binnen planning te realiseren. J de Jonge heeft bewezen een betrouwbare en vakbekwame partner te zijn met een sterke focus op kwaliteit en samenwerking.” Impala Terminals Rotterdam
