The F2A Hanze field is an offshore oil and gas field located in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. The platform relied on two gas engines for its power generation. Seeking to reduce costs associated with fuel gas consumption, emissions, and maintenance, the platform’s operators planned to upgrade the existing setup by installing two additional gas engine generators and a transformer. Our team was engaged to execute this installation efficiently within a tight timeline, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Operating in an offshore environment presented several logistical and technical challenges. All materials and equipment had to be transported to the platform, requiring careful coordination to align with limited offshore supply vessel schedules.
Furthermore, space constraints on the platform demanded meticulous planning for the installation of large components, including generators, a transformer, and exhaust systems. Strict offshore safety protocols and environmental regulations also required rigorous adherence throughout the project.
Our team was responsible for the comprehensive installation of the new power generation setup. This began with preparing and installing foundation frames for the generators and transformer to ensure a stable and secure base.
The generators were then installed, followed by the assembly of a new gas supply line with supporting structures. A gas cooler and its frame were integrated into the system, along with an extension of the access platform to provide safe operational access.
The installation also included gas exhaust systems and supporting constructions, as well as barrier frames to enhance safety and operational functionality.
The project was successfully completed within the planned three-month timeframe. The installation of the additional gas engine generators and transformer significantly enhanced the platform’s power generation capabilities. The upgraded system delivered measurable reductions in fuel gas consumption, emissions, and maintenance costs, aligning with the operator’s goals.
The work was executed safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all offshore standards and maintaining uninterrupted platform operations during the project.
