UBQ Materials case
UBQ Materials is a cleantech company that has developed a revolutionary solution to convert unrecyclable household waste, destined for landfills or incineration, into plastic substitutes.
UBQ Material is the first thermoplastic made from 100% unsorted waste. Therefore, it is the perfect sustainable substitute for traditional polluting petroleum-based plastic. To support its ambitious international expansion, UBQ Materials decided to establish a production plant in the Netherlands. J de Jonge was engaged to provide the necessary piping solutions for the plant’s construction.
The client’s challenge
Founded in 2012, UBQ Materials began constructing its Dutch plant in 2021. As a relatively young and growing company, UBQ Materials were heavily reliant on the expertise of their partners who could proactively engage in the co-creation of the plant.
For Piping and Insulation works, UBQ Materials faced challenges in identifying a partner capable of delivering on promises. This caused a problem for UBQ Materials, as this could have resulted in a significant delay.
In their search to find a reliable problem-solving contractor, UBQ Materials received a recommendation from within their partner network to contact J de Jonge. Promptly, J de Jonge visited UBQ Materials to assess the project, and a match was identified. Given the urgency and despite the short lead times, J de Jonge was able to start its activities on short notice.
The scope of work
The scope of work for UBQ Materials included detailed and field engineering including the stress analyses for the applicable process systems connecting the high-end process equipment and production units undertaken by J de Jonge engineering department JMEC. In close cooperation with the client, JMEC engineering and site team identified potential improvements and optimized the piping systems.
Following the engineering phase, J de Jonge’s prefabrication shops in Vlaardingen and Antwerp prefabricated all necessary piping. The J de Jonge team prepared in detail the work packs and subsequently installed these piping spools on-site including all inline items, secondary steel and supports.
The overall responsibility of J de Jonge included not only piping but also subcontracting for insulation and scaffolding. As well as the delivery of all supporting, secondary supporting, additional steel, procurement of inline items, piping, etc.
The result
