Piping and Engineering Solutions for UBQ Materials Plant

About UBQ Materials

UBQ Materials is a cleantech company that has developed a revolutionary solution to convert unrecyclable household waste into plastic substitutes. Their groundbreaking process transforms unsorted waste into thermoplastic materials that can replace traditional petroleum-based plastics, contributing to sustainability and reducing landfill waste. The company, founded in 2012, has ambitious international expansion plans and decided to establish a production plant in the Netherlands. J de Jonge was engaged to provide the necessary piping solutions for the construction of the plant.

Our Activities

  • Piping and Mechanical works
  • Prefabrication
  • Engineering (Stress analyses)
  • Subcontracting for insulation and scaffolding
  • Procurement of inline items, secondary steel, additional steel

Challenge

UBQ Materials, being a young and rapidly growing company, required a reliable partner to help finalize their Dutch production plant. Faced with challenges in the piping and insulation works, UBQ Materials struggled to find a partner capable of delivering on promises and timelines. This posed a risk to the project, with the potential for significant delays in making the plant operational.

After consulting with their network, UBQ Materials was recommended to reach out to J de Jonge. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, J de Jonge responded quickly, visited the site, and assessed the scope. A successful match was made, and despite tight lead times, J de Jonge was able to mobilize and begin work promptly.

Scope of work

J de Jonge’s responsibilities on the project included detailed and field engineering, including stress analyses for process systems connecting high-end process equipment and production units. Working closely with the client, J de Jonge’s engineering department (JMEC) identified potential improvements to optimize the piping systems.

Following the engineering phase, J de Jonge’s prefabrication shops in Vlaardingen and Antwerp fabricated all necessary piping spools. The team prepared detailed work packages and proceeded with on-site installation, including inline items, secondary steel, and supports. Additionally, J de Jonge managed the subcontracting for insulation and scaffolding, ensuring the completion of all necessary steel and procurement of inline items.

The Result

The collaboration between J de Jonge and UBQ Materials led to the successful completion of the plant. J de Jonge’s proactive involvement ensured that the piping systems were optimized and ready for the plant’s operations, despite the tight schedule. The project was completed with 150,000 LTI-free work hours, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Through their hands-on approach, J de Jonge alleviated UBQ Materials’ concerns, playing a key role in bringing the plant to full operational readiness. This project highlights the value of J de Jonge’s cross-functional teamwork and ability to exceed client expectations, delivering a highly successful outcome for UBQ Materials.
