STANDIC Phase 2 Expansion

About STANDIC

STANDIC is an independent tank storage company in the ARA region, operating three tank terminals. They store a variety of products, including base oils, biodiesels, and chemicals. For over 65 years, STANDIC has been a trusted partner in storage solutions. In 2021, they opened a brand-new terminal in Antwerp, enhancing their ability to serve chemical customers more effectively.

Our Activities

  • Detailed engineering
  • Prefabrication
  • On-Site Installation Piping & Mechanical
  • Electrical Tracing
  • Insulation
  • Scaffolding

Challenge

STANDIC’s highly automated terminal in the heart of Antwerp’s ‘chemical hub’ was developed to meet the requirements of chemical producers. The facility features insulated tanks in eight sizes that can be cooled or heated, along with dedicated lines and pumps to prevent cross-contamination.

Although the terminal in Antwerp was operational, STANDIC sought to expand it through a three-phase project. After the successful completion of the first challenging phase, J de Jonge Mechanical Belgium was entrusted with executing the second phase of the terminal’s construction.

Scope of work

The STANDIC Phase 2 project commenced with detailed engineering, carried out in close collaboration with J de Jonge’s engineering department, JMEC. Additionally, J de Jonge’s scope of work included prefabrication and on-site installation of process and utility pipelines, scaffolding, electrical tracing, and insulation.

J de Jonge Mechanical Belgium installed all product and utility pipelines for 46 tanks and 46 pumps, as well as the infrastructure for train loading and the jetty. With an office and prefabrication shop located in Antwerp, J de Jonge was able to optimize project management by having project managers close to the workplace, ensuring a high level of efficiency.

A significant factor in the success of the project was J de Jonge’s ability to assemble a strong team focused on safety, quality, planning, and budgeting. The right people in the right positions were critical to ensuring the success of this large-scale project.

The Result

The collaboration between J de Jonge and STANDIC led to the successful completion of STANDIC Phase 2. The tank terminal is now fully operational, offering efficient storage solutions for various chemical liquids. J de Jonge successfully completed all piping systems and handed over the full scope to STANDIC.

The project’s completion was achieved with a remarkable 110,000 LTI-free work hours, showcasing the team’s unwavering commitment to safety. This successful project serves as a testament to J de Jonge’s effective approach to complex projects and the power of teamwork in delivering successful outcomes.
